The Goal of the Occupational Therapist

An occupational therapy is a therapeutic work which includes self-care, and play activities to increase development and prevent disability in mental and physical health of a person. It includes adaptation of task or environment to achieve maximum independence and to enhance the quality of life.

This work is critical to understand to people who don’t have any background about the work, but it the true meaning of the term occupation is that how we spend our valuable time whether we are paid or unpaid, restful or fun, obligation or choice in which fulfills us and truly gives our life a purpose, and allows us to interact with other people for them to be more productive, and help them function in the world around us to the best of our their ability.

Occupational therapists are the helpers of the patients which help them improve their ability to perform tasks in living and working environments naturally. Occupational therapist work to people who suffer from mental, physical development, and emotional disability. Occupational therapists use treatments to develop, recover, or maintain the daily living and work skills of their patients. The therapist helps clients not only to improve their basic motor functions and reasoning abilities, but also to compensate for permanent loss of function. The goal is to help clients have independent, productive, and satisfying lives. Occupational Therapy has the goal in mind to increase function and independence of the people in regards to their physical disabilities and limitations.
